ganked from the event info…

El Kookooee is coming. This is our chance as New Mexicans to pratice the long time tradition of burning our worries and fears, so help us burn El KooKooee to the ground. The Commitee has been working hard creating this years design which will feature an authentic creation submitted by a community member. We look forward to sharing this decades old tradition with you. Bring your family, friends and neighbors. There will Be food and vendors and local farmers. ! THE ORIGINAL BURNING MAN CELEBRATION, THE ORIGINAL ZOZOBRA BURNS EVENT!

600pm, south valley library, isleta blvd sw. take a leisurely cruise down to the south valley. as the sun sets, our hopes and fears (and let’s not forget, a dancer with a torch) will burn this years effigy of el coco(!)

this comment came from a website with a lot of popups…

-‘THIS YEAR’S COCO DESIGN WAS SUBMITTED BY AN ELEMENTRY SCHOOL STUDENT, WHO WAS BEING BULLYED BY THREATS TO HAVE HER HEARD “SWIRLED” IN THE TOILET AT SCHOOL. WELL THE ARTISTS HAVE CREATED THE AN IMAGE OF THE BIGGEST BULLY OF THEM ALL, WHO WILL “SWIRLED” IN A FLUSH OF FLAMES IN 2016’   -s

don’t forget to bring lights and a jacket…and a smile.

meet at morningside park @ 400pm. we’ll be stopping at the boardwalk on the river by tingley beach and the bosque trail to pick up any riders that live in the valley. we should arrive there, let’s say 500pm, then cruise along the bosque to rio bravo.

fear

c__data_users_defapps_appdata_internetexplorer_temp_saved-images_stay-strong-my-0nl2qv…it’s all there is now.

fear trump, fear hillary, fear the ‘socialist’ bernie, fear climate change, fear isis (or whatever the terror du jour is today), fear the police, fear the zika, fear the media, fear (what’s next?)…in the biggest picture, we are being trained to fear our own judgment…and even deeper, to fear ourselves.

as far as years go, 2016 is a piece of shit. the lies we’re being fed, the choices we’re being forced to make. pardon my french, but it’s fucking depressing.

lately i’ve seen and experienced so many beautiful things, watched the universe unfold itself like inverse origami. as much as things suck, or at least as much as we’re told that we should think that they suck, things are actually quite magical.

the other day, i walked home with my son. as we came around a corner, we were greeted by the full moon rising out of the sandias. in that moment, all the bullshit fell away and was left in a pile around that corner.

open up your eyes. feel the wind in your hair, the sun on your face. it’s our duty to be true to each other, and ourselves. and for fuck’s sake, turn off the tv.
